Add the Source

A source must be represented in the tally system if the source is...

assigned to be tallied by a display (assigned to the display's monitoring style),
or, assigned to be tallied by a tally output (GPO) (assigned to the GPO's monitoring style),
or, able to reach a monitored (on-air) destination through more than one path, such as a source connected to both a production switcher input and a routing switcher input.

Each of the connections a source has must be identified.
  • In the last row of the table, click the box under the column labeled Source Name.
  • In the box, type a name for the source. The name must be unique. Keep it brief as alternate, more descriptive names for the source are specified elsewhere.

Specify Source Connections to Switching Equipment

In the table, there is one column labeled for each switcher and each level of each router. A source must have an input identifier in at least one of these columns for it to be used for tally purposes.
  • On the same row as the source, click to box under the column of switching equipment.
  • Depending on type of the switching equipment, a pop-up menu of possible choices may appear. If the desired connection does not appear, click Close.
  • Enter an input identifier in a form accepted by that switching equipment. Most switching equipment accepts numeric input identifiers. Some routing switchers accept the same source name that appears in the equipment's configuration system.
Repeat for additional connections that apply to this source.

Specify Alternate Source Names

Often, the unique name for a source is too cryptic to be useful on a tally display so the tally system allows alternate long and short names to be specified. The name to use when a source is displayed can be selected elsewhere.
  • On the same row as the source, click to box under the column labeled Long Name.
  • Enter an alternate name for the source which is to appear when long names are selected.
  • On the same row as the source, click to box under the column labeled Short Name.
  • Enter an alternate name for the source which is to appear when short names are selected.
Use of alternate names is optional. If neither alternate source name is specified, the original name of the source is displayed.
