Matrox DigiSuite Readme
August 20, 2003
This document explains operational limitations
applicable to DigiUtils version 7.2. For a list of new features,
corrections to the manuals, and other important information about this
release, refer to your DigiSuite or DigiSuite MAX Release Notes.
Note This document is optimized for
viewing in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and later. It may not display
correctly in other browsers.
Operational
limitations
Please be aware of the following limitations applicable to using
DigiSuite cards and software provided with DigiUtils version 7.2:
- If you capture digital audio from a CD player or any other 44.1 kHz
source with a program that uses DirectShow audio, such as DigiTools or
United Media Online Express, the audio will play back faster than normal
(that is, at 48 kHz). This problem will not occur, however, if you
capture the analog output from your player instead of the digital
output.
- If you used a DirectShow program such as DigiTools to perform an
open-ended audio capture (that is, you manually stopped the capture),
and work with the clip in a Video for Windows program, the program may
not accurately detect the .wav file's duration. For example, the program
may report that the clip is slightly longer than it really is.
- Minimizing the Adobe Premiere Capture window while in dual-monitor
mode may result in a blurry display on your screen. (Ref# 20667)
- While installing Windows 2000 with two screens connected to the
DigiDesktop, garbage video may be displayed on screen 2. This will
disappear once the appropriate display driver has been installed.
- The input and output proc amps for DigiDesktop are handled by
different components on the card. This means, for example, that
adjusting the Setup control to +1.0 on the input and to -1.0 on the
output will not necessarily cancel each other out.
- If you notice tearing (broken video) in the DigiDesktop video
windows, try setting your display adapter refresh rate to 60 Hz for an
NTSC system, or 75 Hz for a PAL system. For details on how to do this,
refer to your Matrox PowerDesk online guide.
- You may encounter display problems if you change the mouse pointer
to anything other than the standard pointer. To avoid these problems,
choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Mouse >
Pointers, then select a scheme of None, and clear the Enable pointer
shadow option. (Ref# 20625)
- Some Intergraph TDZ computer systems are incompatible with
DigiDesktop. (Ref# 11373)
- After installing DigiUtils under Microsoft Windows XP with
DigiDesktop, when you start the DigiSuite Configuration program you will get
an error message that your Display
Properties are not set to 24-bit, even though they are. Click the Continue
Anyway button and disregard the message. (Ref# 25958)
- If you have an early model DigiLinx (Version 3 or earlier) and you
connect your genlock or digital video sources after starting your
computer, you may need to reboot for the system to properly use the new
connections.
- On a DigiLinx Version 4.0, NTSC lines 19 and 20 of the key output
(Output 2) are not blanked when the Key Invert option is selected in the
DigiLinx Output dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program.
- Because DigiLinx and DigiMix process video output signals
differently, the digital output from DigiLinx isn't perfectly aligned
with the analog output from DigiMix.
- If you choose to genlock to the internal reference signal of a
DigiMix with EEPROM Revision 1.3, you'll need to calibrate the card's SC
Phase in the DigiMix Output dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration
program. If you later genlock to an external source, you'll need to
adjust the SC Phase again.
- On a DigiMix with EEPROM Revision 1.3, the video output may be
misaligned with your external sync source by a few pixels. If you need
the outputs to be perfectly aligned, please call DigiSuite Technical
Support for instructions on how to return your DigiMix to Matrox for
repair.
- On a PAL DigiMix with Revision Base 2, the composite output may be
misaligned with your external sync source by a few pixels.
- If the video standard of your DigiSuite system is set to PAL and you
have a DigiMix Revision Base 2, Module 2 or earlier, fields may be
inverted unless your DigiMix is a PAL card (that is, its part number
must end with "/P").
- On a DigiMix earlier than Revision Base 2, Module 2, the video is
vertically misaligned by a few lines.
- The analog preview output from DigiMix is not perfectly aligned with
the analog main output.
- When using a Sony PVW-2800 series VTR (NTSC or PAL) as a composite
input source, the video may shift upward a few lines on the screen if
menu item 701 (TBC DELAY) is set to sync delay on the deck, and
the Source has Built-in TBC option is selected in the DigiMix Input
dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program. The vertical shift is
due to the way the VTR generates sync signals for composite video. To
solve the problem, clear the Source has Built-in TBC option. Doing this,
however, slightly degrades the input signal because the comb filter is
turned off. For the best video quality, use Y/C or analog component
input with the Source has Built-in TBC option selected. Although this
problem has been reported with the Sony PVW-2800 series, be aware that
it may occur with other types of VTRs.
Note You can check the revision numbers of your DigiMix
in the DigiMix Information dialog box of the DigiSuite
Configuration program.
- The MIDI input and output are not supported. These connectors are
provided on the DigiConnect/Audio breakout box for OEM use only.
- The headphones output jack is not supported.
- If you connect only one of the stereo digital inputs and a program
tries to use the digital input that's not connected, you may obtain
noise at the digital output.
- If you disconnect your second digital input pair (IN 3/4) while
using a program to play back or record the audio, you may obtain noise
at the digital output until you exit the program.
- When the sample rate at which you capture or play back audio
changes, you may hear a click at the audio output. For example, if you
capture audio in DigiTools at a rate of 48 kHz, then close DigiTools and
use Adobe Premiere to play back or capture audio at 44.1 kHz, you may
hear a click when you start the operation.
- When using the image on your Program monitor as a device-generated
background to preview your animation, you must make the following
settings in the Viewport Background dialog box:
- Use Frame value set to 1.
- To value set to the duration of your animation.
- Start at value set to 0.
- When rendering a DigiSuite DirectShow animation, the transparency of
the image displayed on your Program monitor does not reflect the actual
transparency of your final animation.
- The Render Last button to repeat the last render preview on
your Program monitor is not supported. (Ref# 18822)
- When you load a .cfg file in the DigiSuite Configuration
program, your saved configuration settings are not loaded.
(Ref# 25012)
- When using the DigiSuite Configuration program to configure
DigiDesktop, if you move your mouse pointer towards the edge of the live
video window, the pointer may disappear or a small black square may
appear under it. (Ref# 19848)
- When switching from a single to dual-monitor setup, you may get an
error message when you open the live video window in the DigiSuite
Configuration Program. To avoid this problem, always reboot after
switching between single and dual-monitor mode. (Ref# 19643)
- The JVC BR-DV600U deck is not supported by the Calibration Wizard or
the Stripe Tape utility of the DigiSuite Configuration program. (Ref#
19910 & 19919)
- After adding a new card set and running DigiUtils Setup to update
your current installation, all card sets are returned to their factory
default settings. For example, after adding Card Set 2, any custom
settings you made for Card Set 1 will be lost.
- The only DigiLinx input source you can select as your default video
source is the device connected to 4:2:2 IN 1. DigiLinx-22 (an OEM model)
cannot be used with DigiMix because this DigiLinx model does not support
4:2:2 IN 1.
- You won't obtain a warning message if your genlock source's video
standard isn't the same as your system's standard (NTSC or PAL). When
genlocking to an external sync source, always make sure it matches your
system's video standard. Using an incompatible sync source will cause
your system to behave erratically.
- When you close some DirectShow programs, your default video source,
display source, and default audio input and output pairs may not be
retained. To restore these settings, simply run the DigiSuite
Configuration program and click OK.
- If you select Digital Input for DigiMotion but don't hear your audio
at the output when using S/PDIF digital input (and the volume is at an
acceptable level), simply click the Digital Input option a few times
until you hear your audio.
- If you have a stand-alone DigiDesktop, make sure you do not select
Movie-2 Bus Main or Movie-2 Bus Preview as your
source in the DigiDesktop Output dialog box. If you do so, the
DigiSuite Configuration program may freeze. The Movie-2 bus options are
applicable only when using a DigiDesktop that's connected to one or more
other cards with a Movie-2 bus. (Ref# 16841)
- Using the Calibration Wizard to calibrate your Sony DSR-80 VTR will
not result in frame-accurate recording. You should run the Frame
Accuracy Test Wizard and then manually adjust your DSR-80's calibration
settings to obtain frame-accurate recording. (Ref# 18113)
- With DigiMix, DigiMotion, and DigiSuite LE, the Calibration Wizard
and Frame Accuracy Test Wizard in the DigiSuite Configuration program
may not work with certain VTRs. If you experience problems, click
Advanced Settings in the Calibration Settings dialog box.
Manually reset the value of Edit On Delay and Edit Off Delay
to 6, and run the Frame Accuracy Test Wizard again.
(Ref#21277)
- When using a Ciprico RAID disk array, make sure the drive's BIOS is
version 4.0 or later. To get the best performance, make sure the
Ciprico Write Mode option is selected in the DigiSuite
Storage dialog box of the DigiSuite Configuration program.
- When you run DigiUtils Setup to install the DigiSuite plug-in for
LightWave 3D version 6.0 or later, DigiUtils copies the plug-in to
your hard drive. You must then add the plug-in to LightWave 3D as
follows:
- Start LightWave 3D.
- If you have LightWave 3D v7.0, choose Layout > Plug-ins >
Add Plug-in.
- If you have LightWave 3D v6.0 or v6.5, choose Options > Add
Plug-in.
- Select the file named mtxlwsav6.p, located in the \Plugins\Effect
folder, under the folder where you installed LightWave 3D.
- Due to a limitation with the Matrox VFW codecs, when you use Adobe After Effects to render a composition with any of these codecs, you must clear the
Data Rate check box provided by After Effects in the initial Format dialog box. If you select the Matrox M-JPEG or Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame codec from the
Compressor list, click the Configure button to select the data rate you want. There is no need to select a data rate for the Matrox DV codecs
(DV/DVCAM and DVCPRO are preset to 25 Mb/sec, and DVCPRO50 is preset to 50 Mb/sec). (Ref# 27797 & 27798)
- The maximum file size supported by VFW is 1 gigabyte (GB). To avoid
problems, take care not to import files larger than 1 GB into your VFW
projects.
- Depending on the version of Windows Media Player you are using, you
may notice artifacts on a clip that you exported using a Matrox VFW
software codec. For example, you may notice this problem if you are
using mplayer2.exe (try using mplay32.exe instead). (Ref# 22218)
- When exporting a lossless Motion-JPEG clip to a VFW Motion-JPEG
lossy format, Premiere may crash unless Recompress Always is
selected. (Ref# 23229)
- To select the capture source for your VFW program, you must select
your default video source as presently explained in the documentation,
and also set your Display Source to Video in the DigiSuite
Configuration program. If you'd like to capture a graphic keyed over the
video, set your Display Source to Graphic keyed over
video. Then use Inscriber Technology's Video Clipboard for DigiSuite
program to copy your graphic (with alpha key) to the DigiSuite graphic
frame buffer.
- DigiSuite DTV and DigiSuite LX do not support audio at the following
settings when using Video for Windows programs:
If you try to create or play back audio files at any of these
settings on DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, your Video for Windows
program may crash. (Ref# 16044)
- If you lower the audio input gain and capture audio at a bit depth
(resolution) of 8-bits, the audio may be distorted when you play back
the file.
- If your VFW program uses a preallocated capture file in which to
temporarily store video material during a capture, make sure the file is
large enough to accommodate the largest .avi file you'll be
creating. If your preallocated capture file is filled before the capture
is complete, frames may be dropped in the captured video.
- The DigiSuite VFW drivers don't support Adobe Premiere 4.2.
- To ensure that the DigiTools dialog boxes display information
correctly, make sure you set the Display Properties of your Windows
desktop to use Small Fonts and one of the Windows Standard
schemes.
- On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, the Live controls in the
Audio Level dialog box are unavailable.
(Ref# 16521)
- On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, DigiTools saves a clip's left and
right audio channels to a stereo .wav file, not to separate mono
.wav files as explained in the manual. As well, DigiTools does
not support playing back mono .wav files on DigiSuite DTV or
DigiSuite LX. Separate mono .wav files are supported only on
DigiSuite and DigiSuite LE. (Ref# 16749)
- To play back audio, it must be sampled at 48 kHz with 16-bit
samples. On DigiSuite or DigiSuite LE, a clip's left and right audio
channels must be saved as separate mono .wav files, using the
naming convention filename.A1.wav for the left channel, and
filename.A2.wav for the right channel (for example,
Demo.A1.wav is the left audio channel for clip Demo.avi).
On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, a clip's left and right audio channels
must be saved as a stereo .wav file.
- Graphics must be full-screen resolution. On DigiSuite or DigiSuite
LE, graphics must be 720x486 on an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL
system. On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, your graphics must be 720x480
on an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL system. Graphics created at other
resolutions are not supported. (Ref# 23800)
- 8-bit grayscale .tga files are not supported.
- You can't play .avi files in reverse. The Play Reverse
button will therefore be unavailable when an .avi file is
selected.
- The Convert tool does not check for illegal NTSC color values in a
.tga file.
- DigiTools doesn't start up with your default audio gain settings as
defined in the DigiSuite Configuration program. When you start
DigiTools, it uses the audio input levels you last set in the Audio
Level dialog box.
- When you perform a capture, audio from your VCR doesn't play back
during the preroll. You will, however, hear the audio once the capture
starts.
- If you click the Stop button to stop a capture with device
control, your VTR may stop slightly before the capture stops, causing a
few frames of garbage video to appear at the end of your .avi
file.
- If you want to use the DigiTools Convert tool to convert files over
a network, you must first map your network drives. You can do this using
the Map Network Drive command in Windows Explorer. Be aware that
DigiTools does not support capturing or playing back clips over a
network.
- If you install DigiUtils software under an international version of
Windows, the DigiUtils program icons won't work if the name of the
destination folder for storing the DigiUtils files contains spaces. To
avoid problems, simply use the default folder name provided by DigiUtils
Setup (that is, \DigiSoft\DigiUtil).
- When you uninstall and then re-install DigiUtils, you may get two
DigiSuite icons in Control Panel (both icons will work).
- If you want to remove a DigiSuite device driver, make sure that you
uninstall DigiUtils first. You can then remove the device driver using
Device Manager's Uninstall command. Removing a DigiSuite driver
and then scanning for hardware changes or uninstalling DigiUtils may
cause your system to become unstable. (Ref# 21245)
- Before uninstalling DigiUtils,
make sure you save a copy of any custom effects you created in a
separate folder on your hard drive, or the effects will be deleted.
After re-installing DigiUtils, you must add your custom effects to a
subdirectory where you installed DigiUtils, such as DigiSoft\DigUtils\Effects\Organic
Wipes\My Patterns. (Ref# 26795)
- If you get a timeout error message when installing
DigiUtils on Windows XP, click OK, then re-run DigiUtils Setup.
(Ref# 26273)
- If you perform a fresh install of Windows XP in a
foreign language, you may be prompted to replace the foreign MGAUm.sys
file with an English version of the file during DigiUtils Setup. Click
Yes to continue the installation. (Ref# 27493)
- DigiView may stop responding if you open the Windows Task Manager by
pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del. To avoid this problem, you can open Task
Manager by right-clicking the Windows taskbar. (Ref# 20594)
- The Matrox DigiView window may not run if you've updated your Matrox
display driver without re-installing DigiUtils. After updating your
display driver, run DigiUtils Setup to re-install your DigiSuite
software. (Ref# 16887)
- Your computer may become unstable if you change any display
properties while DigiView is open. (Ref# 21995)
- On a DigiSuite MAX system, the Select Input > Analog B
option in the DigiView menu is applicable only to DigiDesktop (which
is not currently supported with a MAX system), and should not be
selected.
If this option is selected, disregard the error message.
(Ref #23844)
- When converting a Matrox MPEG-2 IBP .avi file to an MPEG-2
Program (.mpg) file, the conversion will stop prematurely if the
IBP file has a data rate higher than 8 Mbits/sec. (Ref# 20632)
- To perform a stop-motion capture of analog or SDI input, you must set the device control to
None in Adobe Premiere's Preferences dialog box (choose
Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks and Device Control). If you have a DV-1394 device connected, make sure it is turned off. (Ref# 27795)
- You may lose audio if you drag a clip to the Source Monitor window, press Play and then Stop in the
Source Monitor window, and then press Play in the miniature Project window to play your video clip. To get the audio back, press Stop and then Play again in the
Project window. (Ref #27796)
- To ensure that the Matrox realtime plug-in dialog boxes display
information correctly, make sure you set the Display Properties of your
Windows desktop to use Small Fonts and one of the Windows
Standard schemes.
- Performing a render-scrub in Premiere (that is, previewing applied
effects by pressing Alt as you drag the edit line in the time
ruler), may result in green vertical lines in your Preview Window. The
actual video on the Timeline, however, is fine. (Ref# 19680)
- When performing an export to tape, errors can occur if your tape
ends before the export is complete. To avoid these errors, make sure you
have adequate space on your tape before starting an
export.
(Ref# 21401)
- Adobe Premiere's "J" keyboard shortcut for Reverse Play on
the Timeline is not supported. (Ref# 21646)
- You may notice jerky video in your Movie Capture window if you
repeatedly use the shuttle command. To correct this problem, press
Pause, then Play. (Ref# 21687)
- Your computer may become unstable if you change any display
properties while Adobe Premiere or Matrox DigiView is open. (Ref# 21995
& 22616)
- You may notice a popping sound when running Premiere's Audio Mixer.
The Audio Mixer is software based, and thus very CPU intensive. A faster
system may help alleviate this problem. You must also make sure that
you're not running any other programs at the same time as Premiere.
(Ref# 22729)
- When you apply a realtime MAX transition with crop or border
settings between two clips, the crop or border settings will only
be applied to one of the clips. If you have to render the segment,
however, the crop and border settings will be applied to both clips.
(Ref# 22866)
- After saving a project in Premiere with .avi files and
associated .wav files, if you then move one or more .avi
files to another location without moving the associated .wav
files, you'll receive an incorrect media type error when trying
to open your project in Premiere. To avoid this problem, return your
.avi files to their original location, or move the associated
.wav files to the same folder as your moved .avi files. If
you have a separate audio drive, you'll have to move your .wav
files to an equivalent folder on your audio drive. (Ref# 22882)
- Inscriber .icg files will not display on your NTSC or PAL
video monitor when played from Premiere's Clip window. (Ref# 22932)
- To improve stability in Adobe Premiere, make sure that the
Preferred device for Sound Playback and Sound
Recording is the Matrox DigiSuite Wave Driver, and that Use only
preferred devices is selected. To locate these options, choose
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia
> Audio. (Ref# 23069)
- When exporting a Motion-JPEG clip in Adobe Premiere to DV or MPEG-2
format on an NTSC DigiSuite LE system, the frame size will be
incorrectly shown as 720x486 instead of 720x480. (Ref# 23152)
- If you place a .tga file in the Video 1 track of the Timeline, then
apply a DigiSuite 2D DVE effect to it, you may notice some artifacts on
the clip. This problem is not present if you move the .tga to
Video 2 or higher, and apply an Alpha-channel key to the clip. (Ref#
23153)
- Adobe Premiere's estimated render time may be incorrect for a
Timeline consisting of complex realtime and non-realtime segments. (Ref#
23197)
- To avoid problems with blocky video, if you are performing a short
export in Premiere (10 frames or less), make sure Recompress
Always is not selected in the Export Movie Settings dialog
box. If you need to use Recompress Always, you can export some
extra material to make your export at least 11 frames, then trim the
resulting file. (Ref# 23557)
- If you apply a page curl transition between a graphic on which
you've applied a DigiSuite or software effect on V1A, and a video clip
on V1B, the page curl won't display correctly. (Ref# 23604)
- If you export a non-realtime segment that includes a DigiSuite paint
effect with a software effect or an Inscriber animated title, you may
notice that your exported clip is slightly darker than when the clip is
played back from the Timeline. (Ref# 23654)
- If you apply a chroma key effect to a clip that already has a MAX
effect applied to it, you may notice a thin line around the edges of
your clip. This problem may also affect Inscriber/CG stills. (Ref#
23501)
- If you're using a RAID controller, such as a Promise FastTrak 66,
that has a system monitoring utility, you may notice some Timeline
sluggishness or capture freezes in Premiere. If the system monitoring
utility is active on the Windows taskbar, you should disable this
utility to lower PCI bus utilization.
- While working in Premiere, you may notice the intermittent problem
of the Delete key not functioning. If this happens, you can try
pressing the CTRL key, then the Delete key. (Ref# 23814)
- If you apply a MAX transition between two clips on the Timeline, the
default Premiere Cross Dissolve is inverted (that is, Video 1A dissolves
into Video 1B, instead of vice versa). (Ref# 23877)
- To avoid the intermittent problem of repeated video frames or audio
drifts during a long analog capture, make sure that you use an external
sync generator as your genlock source. (Ref# 21299)
- When using Adobe Premiere’s jog tread in the Movie Capture
window, your DV-1394 device may forward to the end of the tape instead
of moving to the desired frame. (Ref# 20849)
- Exporting audio only from the Adobe Premiere Timeline to a
.wav file using the Video for Windows setting causes Premiere to
crash. (Ref# 22385)
- To ensure that Adobe Premiere handles your projects correctly, make
sure you load the appropriate preset for your system’s video standard in
the Load Project Settings dialog box. For example, if you load a
PAL preset on an NTSC system, the frame size in the Project
Settings dialog box will not match the preset you selected.
- When moving the Movie Capture window on your Windows desktop,
the screen refresh may be slow. To fix this problem, right-click your
desktop, choose Properties and click the Effects tab.
Clear the checkbox for Show window contents while dragging, if
checked. (Ref# 22107)
- When performing a Print to Video in Adobe Premiere, your video will
be shifted slightly to the upper left. (Ref# 20715 & 21705)
- You won't be able to open the Windows Task Manager by pressing
Ctrl+Alt+Del while in Adobe Premiere. To avoid this problem, you
can open Task Manager by right-clicking the Windows taskbar. (Ref#
20594)
- After exporting to a Matrox .avi file on DigiSuite LX, your
clip may not be displayed in the Adobe Premiere Clip window if you
selected Open When Finished in the Export Movie Settings
dialog box. This problem won't affect your exported clip. (Ref# 21229)
- If your VTR is in Local mode when starting a batch capture
using RS-422 device control, Premiere may become unstable, or you may
receive an incorrect error message. To avoid this problem, make sure
your VTR is in Remote mode before starting the capture. (Ref#
21174)
- If you upgrade to Boris FX version 6.0, Premiere won't be able to
find the earlier version of the Boris FX plug-in when you open a
previously created project. To locate the required file, you'll have to
point Premiere to the new Boris FX file in your Premiere plug-ins
folder. (Ref# 21287)
- When performing a Print to Video on your DigiSuite system, the
Full Screen and Zoom by 2 options don't display video
correctly on your computer screen, although the display on your NTSC or
PAL monitor is fine. Be aware that there is no need to use these options
when playing back video on DigiSuite. (Ref# 18651 & 22131)
- After building a preview, your project may play back from the
beginning of the Timeline rather than starting from the area you
selected in the work area bar.
- If you place a clip on your Timeline that was created using a
non-Matrox codec, you won't be able to add any DigiSuite effects to the
clip. (Ref# 18734)
- When performing an export to tape in Adobe Premiere, if you do not
specify an In point in the @ time code box in the Export to
Tape dialog box, the first frame recorded on your tape will be the
frame where the Timeline's edit line is positioned. To avoid this
problem, always specify an In point when performing an export to tape.
(Ref# 18772)
- The first capture that you perform after starting Adobe Premiere may
appear choppy in the Movie Capture window. Please note, however,
that the video will be fine on your NTSC or PAL Program monitor, and the
captured file will play back correctly from your Timeline. All
subsequent captures during the same Premiere session will appear smooth
in the Movie Capture window. (Ref# 18835)
- After you capture a clip, and play it back in the Clip
window, you may lose sync between audio and video. Once you save the
clip and place it on the Timeline, however, audio and video are in
sync.
(Ref# 18919 & 19932)
- When performing an audio-only capture with a Capture Limit,
you may experience dropped frames in the resulting .wav file.
(Ref# 19010)
- On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, if your audio files are on a drive
different than your system is set up to use, and you import a clip's
.avi and .wav files separately to your project, the
.wav file will be longer than the .avi file. To avoid this
problem, always store your audio files on the appropriate drive (that
is, either the same drive as your video or the separate audio drive your
system is set up to use). (Ref# 18926)
- If your video drive becomes full while performing a capture in
Premiere, the end of disk error message may not appear. Also, if
your drive becomes full, you may not be able to save or rename your
captured clip to your video drive. You can save your clip to a different
drive if you have enough space, then free up some space on your video
drive, and cut and paste your captured clip. (Ref# 19326 & 19329)
- If you have a dual-screen display with a Matrox DigiDesktop, when
you minimize the Premiere Movie Capture window, you may notice a
distorted display on your screen. (Ref# 20667)
- If your video drive becomes full while exporting video in Premiere,
your export will stop, but you may not receive an error message. To
avoid this problem, always make sure that you have enough space on your
video drive before starting an export. (Ref# 20689)
- To be compatible with this release of DigiUtils, you must upgrade
your version of the Inscriber/CG software to Inscriber/CG V3.0.1.44 or
later. If the Matrox realtime plug-in doesn't work correctly once
you've upgraded your Inscriber/CG software, please contact the Matrox
DigiSuite Customer Support Department for help. (Ref# 16808)
- If you'll be combining Boris FX 3D effects with any of the DigiSuite
realtime effects, you must disable multiprocessor use in Boris FX. To do
this, choose Edit>Preferences, then clear the
Multiprocessor enabled option. If this option is selected,
rendering errors may occur when you render your effects.

16365)
- When trimming a clip, you won't see the frames you're trimming on
your NTSC or PAL monitor.
- When playing back only the audio portion of a clip in a Clip
window, there may be a delay of about five seconds before any volume
change takes effect. (Ref# 16499)
- For realtime playback, graphics must be full-screen resolution. On
DigiSuite or DigiSuite LE, graphics must be 720x486 on an NTSC system,
or 720x576 on a PAL system. On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, your
graphics must be 720x480 on an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL system.
Graphics created at other resolutions are not supported. (Ref# 23800)
- On DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, when combining a graphics clip
with a DigiSuite DVE or any other effect that requires the clip to be
rendered, make sure your graphic is full-screen resolution (720x480 on
an NTSC system, or 720x576 on a PAL system). Otherwise, your graphic may
appear to be shifted when you render the effect. (Ref# 16535)
- If you choose to replace a missing clip when you open an Adobe
Premiere project, make sure the replacement clip is the same length or
longer than the original clip. If you replace a missing clip with a
shorter clip, a corruption will be reported when you scrub or play the
last frame of the replacement clip.
- DigiSuite DTV and DigiSuite LX do not support capturing or playing
back audio at the following settings with Adobe Premiere:
If you try to export or play back an audio clip at any
of these settings on DigiSuite DTV or DigiSuite LX, Adobe Premiere may
crash. (Ref# 16044)
- When you place a 32-bit .tga clip with an alpha-key channel
into a superimpose track (Video 2 or higher), Adobe Premiere sets the
clip's key type to None by default. This means the clip is not
automatically alpha-keyed. To turn on the alpha-key, select the clip in
the Timeline, choose Clip > Video Options > Transparency,
then set the Key type to Alpha Channel. (Ref# 13556)
- If you apply a DigiSuite 2D DVE to a clip in the Video 1 track,
Adobe Premiere sets the clip's transparency to None because Video
1 is not a superimpose track. If, however, you later move the clip to
Video 2 or higher, you'll have to apply an Alpha Channel key to
the clip to make the black area around the DVE transparent. You will NOT
have to do this for DigiSuite DVEs that are created in a superimpose
track. (Ref# 14063)
- If you place an .avi file on the Video 1 track and then move
it to Video 2 or higher, you'll need to change the key type from
None to Alpha Channel to apply a DigiSuite chroma or luma
key to the clip.
- The Play to Out button on the Program side of the
Monitor window doesn't work when the edit line is currently at or
past the Mark Out point. (Ref# 14184 and 16824)
- Premiere markers (Mark In and Out point icons) are not shown in the
Source or Program side of the Monitor window.
- Toggling quickly between the Source and Program sides of the
Monitor window may cause the wrong frames to be displayed. You
can correct this by scrubbing the clip.
- Play Reverse in the Clip window does not stop playing
the audio at the first frame.
- If you have a dual-screen display with a Matrox display card
other than DigiDesktop (such as Matrox G450), when you have the
Clip window and Monitor window on different screens and
stop playback in the Clip window, the wrong image is displayed
(for example, the Clip window displays the last image played in
the Monitor window). (Ref# 14373)
- When you apply a speed change to a clip, the following problems
occur:
-
Audio scrubbing in the Clip window or
Source side of the Monitor window is out of sync with the
video. (Ref# 14374)
-
The clip's duration on the Source side of the
Monitor window does not reflect the speed change, but the
duration on the Program side and in the Clip window does
reflect the speed change. For example, if you increase the clip's
speed to 800%, clicking Frame Advance in the Program view or
Clip window will advance 8 frames, while the Frame
Advance button in the Source view will always advance only one
frame.
- The Preview option does not work in all Premiere audio filters.
- Performing a Ripple Edit will not move associated preview files.
- The first scrub over a virtual clip is not smooth after making
changes to the source area. (Ref# 14233)
- If your hard drive becomes full during a batch capture the capture
will stop, but the last clip listed as captured may not be fully
captured.
- If you encounter audio sync issues when scrubbing through the
Timeline, make sure that your Audio Settings as defined in the
Project Settings dialog box are set to 48000Hz, 16 Bit Stereo.
- When you render a clip on which you applied a DigiSuite tint effect,
the tint color of the resulting image may not match the tint color you
selected, especially if you had selected a highly saturated color. This
problem is not applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. (Ref#
14458)
- Because of the way subpixel positioning is performed on DigiSuite 2D
DVEs, minor artifacts may be noticeable at the edges of your 2D DVE. You
can try to eliminate these artifacts by aligning your DVE on even pixel
boundaries by setting its Width, Height, Horizontal
Pos, and Vertical Pos to even numbers. When creating a DVE
move, align the first and last DVEs in the keyframe sequence at even
pixel boundaries.
- Adobe Premiere may crash if you export a non-DigiSuite production to
a Matrox DigiSuite .avi file. (Ref# 14781)
- When you press the Esc key to stop playback of a Print to
Video operation, the Program or Source window may not refresh properly.
- If you export video to a Video for Windows .avi file (that
is, you set the File Type to Microsoft AVI), your exported
file may be missing video layers or effects. This problem is not
applicable to accelerated print-to-disk segments. To work around the
problem, export your video to a DirectShow .avi file (set the
File Type to Matrox DigiSuite), then bring the exported
file into your Timeline and export it to a Video for Windows .avi
file. (Ref #16647)
- In Adobe Premiere,
you may lose sync between audio and video if you try to play back the
Timeline with the Audio Mixer window open. (Ref# 23350)
- On a DigiSuite MAX
system, if you end an export prematurely, you may hear a ticking sound
when scrubbing or playing back the Timeline. (Ref# 24484)
- On a full
DigiSuite (DigiMix-DigiMotion) system, the monitor window will resize
itself when you load lossy project settings in Adobe Premiere version
6.0. (Ref# 24613)
- DigiView should not be opened at the same time as
Adobe Premiere on a MAX system with a Matrox G400, G450, or G550 display
card. Doing so will cause your system to crash . (Ref# 23925)
- Inscriber CG crawls that are greater than 240 lines
in height are not supported in Adobe Premiere. (Ref# 24456)
- The
MPEG clips you load in Adobe Premiere must be of the same video standard
as your DigiSuite system.
(Ref# 24434)
- Selecting the Always output to 1394 option in the
Output Settings dialog box disables Adobe Premiere's "J"
keyboard shortcut for Reverse play. (Ref#
24442)
- When exporting an audio file
only, the .wav extension must be specified in the file name. (Ref#
24434)
- If you change video project settings following an export to tape,
you must turn your camera off and then back on so that Premiere can recognize the
new video project settings. For example, if you export to tape in DV,
then switch to DVCPRO and try to export to tape, it will not work. You
must turn your camera off and then back on before exporting to tape. (Ref# 24813)
- If you are experiencing problems playing back a long Timeline, or
if the Edit line jumps to the end of the Timeline when you press the
spacebar, delete Premiere .prf files and the problems should be
resolved. (Ref# 24970)
- Due to the different filtering method used for DigiSuite effects and
MAX effects, the image quality of a Matrox MAX 2D DVE effect may not
be as sharp as a DigiSuite DVE effect. (Ref# 24776)
- You may notice a shift of 1 or 2 pixels when you play
back a rendered segment in Adobe Premiere. To correct this, change
Pixel Aspect Ratio to Square Pixels. (Ref# 25091)
- If you change your display resolution, then open Adobe Premiere,
you may lose your PowerDesk icon in the task bar when you place your
mouse over it. (Ref#24562)
- When Force Render is applied to a MAX transition, the crop settings are applied to both layers of video. (Ref#
24283)
- In Adobe Premiere, keyframes may react unpredictably if
you use the slip tool on an .avi to which you previously added a
MAX effect. (Ref# 25312)
- Since the MAX mask effect uses an alpha key to get the desired
result, it should be placed on the Video 2 track or higher. (Ref# 25337)
- You won't be able to open Adobe Premiere if Adobe Photoshop is
already running on your system. For best performance, don't run any
other programs at the same time as Premiere, as explained in the
"Defining Your Adobe Premiere Settings" chapter of your DigiSuite
or DigiSuite MAX User Guide. (Ref# 23917)
- Exporting a clip with video and audio from the Adobe Premiere
Clip window results in only the video being exported. For
successful exports, always export your clips from the Timeline. (Ref#
23780)
- Video in the Stop Motion Capture window may freeze when you
use the Stop Motion feature for the first time in Premiere. If this
happens,
close the Stop Motion Capture window, then re-open it.
(Ref#26005)
- If you apply a shadow on a DigiSuite 2D DVE effect to a .tga, roll,
crawl, or still, then export it to an .avi file, you will not be able to see
the shadow in your exported file. (Ref# 26082)
- When performing a movie export to Ligos LSX-MPEG LE for Premiere, don't
select Open When Finished from the General tab of Premiere's
Export
Movie Settings when selecting MPEG-1 as the Output File Type. If you
do, you may receive an error message. (Ref# 26515)
- Before uninstalling DigiUtils, make sure you save a
copy of any custom effects you created in a separate folder on your
hard drive, or the effects will be deleted. After re-installing
DigiUtils, you must add your custom effects to a subdirectory where
you installed DigiUtils, such as DigiSoft\DigUtils\Effects\Organic
Wipes\My Patterns. (Ref# 26795)
- When using MJPEG uncompressed-quality video on
DigiSuite, if the clips on your Timeline appear to need rendering,
select Project > Project Settings > Video > Compressor >
Matrox M-JPEG > Configure and set the video quality to Uncompressed, then click
OK. On the Timeline, all clips should revert to realtime. (Ref# 26911)
- If you choose to encode to the Windows Media format,
you will be limited to using one Windows Media
encoding profile for each encoding session. (Ref#24651)
- When naming output files on the General tab of the Export
Settings dialog box, don't use invalid characters in the file name,
such as * (asterisk), ; (semi-colon), ? (question mark), etc. If you do,
a Premiere Disk Full error message will appear when you try to encode
the files. (Ref# 24661)
- On a PAL system, if you use the RealMedia Single-rate 28K Modem
profile, Single-rate 56K Modem profile, or Multi-rate 28K, 56K Modem
profile, a Premiere Disk Full error message may appear when you try to
encode the files . (Ref# 25530)
- If you encounter problems with, or cannot close, the Effects Library
browser in Boris FX, make sure you clear Animate Thumbnails.
(Ref#25204)
- When using Matrox
MPEG-2 I-frame clips in Adobe Premiere on a DigiSuite DTV or LX system
without a MAX card installed, opening settings files with the Boris FX
Effects Library browser will cause your system to crash. To avoid this
problem, open your settings files in Boris FX by choosing File >
Open Settings.
(Ref# 25610)
- Turning off or unplugging your DV-1394 device while the Premiere
Movie Capture window is open may result in the Movie
Capture window not responding or Premiere shutting down. (Ref# 20088
& 23302)
- When using Matrox DV-1394 device control in Adobe Premiere to
perform an analog capture from a batch capture list containing many
clips, Premiere may crash or Windows may automatically restart. To
perform better diagnostics, you should disable the Windows 2000
automatic restart. To do so, choose Start > Settings > Control
Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery, and clear
Automatically reboot. (Ref# 23364)
- If you find that clips you've captured over the 1394 interface using
Adobe Premiere play back with no audio, try the following to recover the
audio:
- Choose Project > Settings > General > Advanced to
display the Output Settings dialog box.
- Under Timeline Playback, select Always output to
1394. Click OK, then click OK again to close the
Project Settings dialog box.
- Play back your clip. You’ll receive a 1394 error message. Click
OK.
- Choose Project > Settings > General > Advanced to
return to the Output Settings dialog box.
- Clear Always output to 1394. Click OK, then click
OK again.
- When you play your clip, the audio should play back normally.
(Ref# 21371)
- With certain DV-1394 devices in Adobe Premiere, playback is jerky or
intermittent after using the shuttle control in the capture window.
- After choosing the Capture In/Out button from the
Logging tab of the Adobe Premiere Movie Capture window, if
you hit the Esc key while your DV-1394 device is seeking, the
capture window goes blank until it’s moved.
- At the beginning of a DV-1394 capture with Matrox DV-1394 device
control, the Adobe Premiere Movie Capture window may display
black before starting the capture.
- When performing a DV-1394 capture with Matrox DV-1394 device
control, if you stop video playback and then click Premiere's Frame
Forward or Frame Back buttons, you’ll actually move two
frames instead of one with certain DV devices.
- When performing an analog capture with Matrox DV-1394 device
control, Premiere may reset the clip's In point to 00:00:00:00 in the
time code display of the Movie Capture Window. Your VTR, however,
will display the correct time code. (Ref# 20707)
- When performing an analog capture with Matrox DV-1394 device
control, if you change the capture format by choosing Project >
Settings > Capture > Format while the Movie Capture
window is open, your first clip captured with the new format will
contain garbage video. To avoid this problem, you can right-click the
Movie Capture window and choose Format to change your
capture format. (Ref# 20329)
- When performing an analog capture with Matrox DV-1394 device
control, your captured file may be off by a few frames from your desired
In and Out points. As a workaround, set your In and Out points so as to
give yourself some extra room, then trim your clips as needed in Adobe
Premiere. (Ref# 20059 & 19707)
- When performing a batch capture, if you press Escape while
your device is searching for a clip's In Point, the capture will
continue to the next clip, but an empty file will appear in the Library
window for the clip you skipped. (Ref# 20265)
- Some DV-1394 devices may be off by a few frames when cueing to an In
point in the Movie Capture window. (Ref# 19706)
- When DV-1394 is selected as your capture video source, make
sure you choose to capture video only, or both audio and video. (Ref#
20461)
- When using some camcorders in VTR Mode to capture in Adobe Premiere,
you may need to press the Frame Advance and Frame Reverse
buttons more than once for the buttons to work.
(Ref# 19703
& 20239)
- When recording material onto tape, some DV-1394 devices may take a
few extra seconds to stop the recording. (Ref# 18911)
- If you are using an Intergraph TD 260 Series A computer with
DigiSuite DTV, you may encounter problems recording to tape. (Ref#
18682)
- When using Matrox DV-1394 device control, backward shuttle of a tape
will not work if you're at the end of the tape. You can rewind for a few
seconds and then use the backward shuttle feature. (Ref# 17211)
- When capturing with Matrox DV-1394 device control, if analog audio
is connected to the inputs of your system, you will hear analog audio
being output. Your captured files, however, include the correct DV
audio. (Ref# 19019)
- On DigiSuite DTV and LX, pressing Play and Pause while
performing a DV-1394 capture can result in blocky video for up to one
second. This problem does not affect batch capturing. (Ref# 19138 &
19711)
- In Adobe Premiere, your DV-1394 device should not be in Play
mode while playing back the Timeline with Always Output to 1394
enabled. (Ref# 25600)
- On multi-standard DV-1394 devices such as the Sony DSR-11, the
output standard is determined by the standard of your tape. In order for
a multi-standard device to detect the standard of your tape,
you must be playing the tape manually when you open
Adobe Premiere. (Ref# 24560, 24537, 24559)
- If you abort a DV-1394 capture, or if the tape in your DV-1394
device reaches the end, you may get a dropped frames error message.
Click OK to continue. (Ref# 26809)
- If you get a message that there was an error connecting to your
DV-1394 device after selecting Matrox DV-1394 Device Control,
try turning off and on your DV-1394 device. If this does not correct
the problem, you may have to restart Adobe Premiere with your DV-1394
device already turned on. (Ref# 27640)
- If you attempt to capture live video with a set duration with your DV-1394 device set to Camera Mode,
the captured clip may be the
wrong duration. (Ref# 27537)
- When using a Matrox dual-head display card in your DigiSuite system,
the MaxView and independent monitor adjustment Multi-Display controls
are not supported. (Ref# 23041 & 23726)
- If you want to upgrade your primary display card driver, you
must clear the Extend my desktop onto this monitor option
in your MAX display properties before doing so. After you've upgraded
your new primary display card driver, you must select Extend my
desktop onto this monitor in your MAX display properties and reboot
your computer after doing so. See the installation manual for your
DigiSuite MAX system for details. (Ref# 24160)
- With a Matrox
Millennium G550, your system may crash if you set the refresh frequency
of the secondary monitor to 60Hz. To ensure that the refresh frequency
of the secondary monitor is not set to 60Hz, choose Start >
Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings. Under Display, select the
G550, then click the Advanced tab. Click the DualHead tab.
Check the refresh frequency listed under Max secondary
resolution. (Ref #24561)
- You cannot use a
Matrox G200 as your main display card with DigiSuite MAX. You must use
a Matrox G400, G450, G550, Parhelia, Millennium P650, or Millennium
P750 display card.
- When running a program on DigiSuite that requires a hardware key
(dongle), you may experience a variety of problems with your system,
such as green flashes when you play back video. If your program uses a
Sentinel dongle, you should upgrade your Sentinel.sys driver to
version PD-5.38 or later, which is available from Rainbow Technologies'
Web site at http://www.rainbow.com/. If your
program uses a HASP dongle, upgrade your Haspnt.sys driver to
version 4.02 or later, available from Aladdin Knowledge Systems' Web
site at http://www.hasp.com/.
- Video and audio may be out of sync when playing a DVD on a software
DVD player. (Ref# 24483)
- Ulead MediaStudio Pro is not compatible with DigiSuite and therefore
cannot be used to create or edit DigiSuite files.
