XHub v.1.07, 2.05 & 2.06 Upgrade procedure Issue: Version 1.2 - File:T:\Product\XT Series Server\Tech Info\SDTI\XHub upgrade 061124.txt Preliminary notes: There are 2 types of hardware for XHubs: - XHub 540Mbps : can be used with XNet network at 270 and 540Mbps - XHub 1.5Gbps (XHub[2]) : can be used with XNet and XNet[2] networks at 270, 540 and 1485Mbps. There is a sticker at the back those mentioning XHub[2]. There are 3 current software versions for XHub : - v. 1.07, compatible with Multicam 5.xx.xx and 6.xx.xx - v. 2.05, compatible with Multicam 7.xx.xx or later for XHub 540Mbps - v. 2.06, compatible with Multicam 7.xx.xx or later for XHub 1.5 Gbps XHub 1.5Gbps can only run v. 2.06, and therefore can only be used if all XT and XT[2] servers on the network run Multicam 7.xx.xx or later. Multicam 7.xx.xx is required for XT[2] servers. Therefore : - If XT[2] servers are present on the network, all XT and XT[2] servers on this network must run Multicam 7.xx.xx or later and all XHubs must run v. 2.06 - XHubs 1.5Gbps CAN NOT be used with Multicam 5.xx.xx or 6.xx.xx. Only XHubs 540Mbps running v. 1.07 are compatible with Multicam 5.xx.xx or 6.xx.xx The procedure described in this document explains how to identify and upgrade an XHub 540Mbps to either v. 1.07 or v. 2.05. Identify the current version of XHub 1. Turn off the XHub 2. Move down all 4 dip switches located on the left side of the BNC connectors 3. Turn on the XHub 4. The branch status LEDs show the software version in a binary pattern : Branch LED # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 v. 1.06 green red green green v. 1.07 green red green green green v. 2.03 green red green green v. 2.04 green red green v. 2.05 green red green green v. 2.06 green red green green 5. To return the XHub to its normal operational mode : turn it off, move the 4 dip switches up, turn on the XHub Identify the XHub type The SPEED led helps identifying the XHub Type : 1. If the SPEED led is OFF then the XHub Type is 540 Mbps 2. If the SPEED led is ON then the XHub Type is 1.5 Gbps Upgrade Procedure for XHub 540Mbps 1. Turn off XHub 2. Move down all 4 dip switches located on the left side of the BNC connectors 3. Turn on XHub. 4. Make sure that SPEED is OFF before continuing the upgrade, confirming that the XHub is the 540Mbps type. 5. Insert the XHub upgrade disk into the floppy drive of the XT server 6. Use a null-modem cable to connect the COM1 port (RS232 #1 Tablet) of the XT to the RS232 port of the XHub. 7. Exit all applications on the XT server until you reach the DOS prompt To upgrade to v. 2.05 (Multicam 7.xx only) 8. At the DOS prompt, type a: [ENTER] 9. Type a:upgrade [ENTER]. 10. At the prompt, type 2 [ENTER] to install the software. 11. When the transfer is complete, an OK appears next to the file name, and the LEDs on the XHub flash briefly once. 12. A counter on the VGA shows again the progress of the transfer. When the tranfer is complete, an OK appears next to the file name. 13. Turn the XHub off 14. Move up all 4 dip switches on the XHub 15. Turn the XHub on again. The upgrade is completed. To upgrade to v. 1.07 (Multicam 5.xx and 6.xx only) 16. At the DOS prompt, type a: [ENTER] 17. Type a:upgrade [ENTER]. 18. At the prompt, type 1 [ENTER] to install the software. 19. When the transfer is complete, an OK appears next to the file name, and the LEDs on the XHub flash briefly once. 20. A counter on the VGA shows again the progress of the transfer. When the tranfer is complete, an OK appears next to the file name. 21. Turn the XHub off 22. Move up all 4 dip switches on the XHub 23. Turn the XHub on again. The upgrade is completed. Upgrade Procedure for XHub 1.5Gbps to v. 2.06 (Multicam 7.xx or later) 1. Turn off XHub 2. Move down all 4 dip switches located on the left side of the BNC connectors 3. Turn on XHub. 4. Make sure that SPEED is ON before continuing the upgrade, confirming that the XHub is the 1.5 GMbps type. 5. Insert the XHub upgrade disk into the floppy drive of the XT server 6. Use a null-modem cable to connect the COM1 port (RS232 #1 Tablet) of the XT to the RS232 port of the XHub. 7. Exit all applications on the XT server until you reach the DOS prompt 8. At the DOS prompt, type a: [ENTER] 9. Type a:upgrade [ENTER]. 10. At the prompt, type 3 [ENTER] to install the software.
