This readme file describes the use and risks of the programs in this directory. Description: The main.exe executable file in this directory is a Windows PC "Frame Simulator" version of code which normally runs on the Frame hardware. By running this program on the same PC as the menu program, you can experiment with menu program options and load, modify, and save configuration files without a connection to the Kayenne switcher hardware. Installation: Copy the main.exe and ConfigureStandard.cmd program from this directory to a directory on a PC that has had the menu installed using the "Menu on PC" option of your switcher installation procedure. You may want to rename the file to something more meaningful such as "SimulatorVxxx.exe". It is suggested you also copy this readme.txt file to the same directory. Usage: Run the Frame Simulator. It will open up a command window that displays various messages. To exit the Frame Simulator, close the command window. Run the menu. The menu will communicate with the Frame Simulator unless you change I.P. addresses for the Menu on PC/ Frame communications. It is expected that the Frame Simulator will be used on a standalone PC to load, modify, and save configuration files and to edit macro files. Additionally, the Frame Simulator could be used to navigate and experiment with various options. The video standard/line rate will affect all transition, timeline, and macro pause durations. To change the video standard of the Frame Simulator, run the command "ConfigureStandard.cmd". This command is located in the Frame Simulator directory. This command line executes the command "main.exe -config". The Frame Simulator program will start running in a command line window and will print out the following message: To select a Video Operating Mode, enter the corresponding number of the Video Mode you want. e.g. '3' to run in 720p - 60Hz Subsequent use of this Frame Simulator will use this configured Video Mode until it is changed. [1] 525i – 59.94Hz [2] 625i - 50Hz [3] 720p – 59.94Hz/60Hz [4] 720p - 50Hz [5] 1080i – 59.94Hz /60Hz [6] 1080i - 50Hz Select the number for the corresponding video standard and press the Enter key. The Frame Simulator will now run using the selected video standard. The selected video standard will now be the default. Some actions require a reboot of the Frame. When using a frame simulator, just close the Frame Simulator to reboot it. You should wait a couple of seconds before restarting it. If you stop one Frame Simulator and restart another for a different software version, you must also restart the menu. Caveats: The Frame Simulator was developed as an internal tool developed by engineering at Grass Valley USA, LLC. to allow software testing without access to switcher hardware. It is not tested by our Quality Assurance department, and may have deficiencies. The software is provided as-is. In particular, Grass Valley USA, LLC. makes no assurances that it will operate correctly or that it will provide a useful service. Grass Valley USA, LLC. will not be responsible for any damages, including loss of data incurred by the use of this program. Grass Valley USA, LLC. does not agree to provide support for this tool through engineering, Customer Service, nor any other part of Grass Valley USA, LLC. The Frame Simulator will attempt to communicate with devices that have been defined, and if the PC on which it is being run has network access to other devices, the Frame Simulator will send commands to connected devices. This can interfere with the control of these devices by other means. It is strongly recommended that the Frame Simulator only be run on a standalone PC that is not connected through a network to any other devices. The Frame Simulator will create several directories on the C: drive of the PC on which it is installed and will write files into the directories. The directories include \<"SwitcherName">FrameLogs, \logs, \NV and \DUMP. Various menu functions, especially File Ops, may write files to the PC and may create directories named <"SwitcherName">User. The use of the File Ops menu to modify files in either of these directories is unsupported. No installation process is provided with the Frame Simulator. No "uninstall" option is available to remove the Frame Simulator and the files it creates. No visual feedback is provided by the Frame Simulator. That is, it does not process video signals and produces no video output. Some functions can only be invoked from the panel, not the menu. This limits some menu options. The Menu on PC does not have knobs that are available on the switcher Menu Panel; the Mouse wheel run over the knob pads will work like a knob in many cases. If you use the same PC for running multiple switcher simulations, Kalypso and Kayenne for example or two significantly different versions of Kayenne, it is recommended that you delete the /NV directory when changing from one to another.
