Overview Windows XP Mode is one of the useful features released in 2009 for only Windows 7 to maintain applications compatibility for Windows XP. There are two main goals in this run: available for Windows Virtual PC, and Windows XP Mode. The former requires Windows 7 Pro or above editions and Windows Virtual PC installation. For the latter, you needs to install Windows XP Mode and configures the virtual machine later. Pre-activated Windows XP Mode is only valid for Windows 7 Pro and above editions, and is invalid for Windows 7 Home and under editions or other operating systems and non imports on Windows Virtual PC or VMware Workstation Player / Pro, so use some tricks to avoid activation. Otherwise, it will be unusable 30 days after installation. Various tricks are used to address these limitations. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. InCD 6.6.5100 Installing InCD 6.6.5100 adds Blu-ray disks support by adding supports for reading and writing up to UDF 2.5. d. StarWind V2V Image Converter By using StarWind V2V Image Converter, you can convert the original VHD to VMDK, making it easy to ports to other virtualization software. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Known Limitations and Issues ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a. General = Windows XP Mode does not supports native USB 3.0 or higher controller. So, note that peripherals connected to USB 3.0 / 3.1 is will not working in Windows XP Mode. In this case, you need to connect the peripheral devices you want to use in Windows XP Mode to the USB 2.0 terminal. = Windows Live (2009), S-YXG50, and InCD 6.6.5100 is only support 32-bit versions. = Microsoft Update may not working due to an infinite attempts loop bug. = To maintain security in Windows XP Mode, it is necessary to install anti-virus software on Windows XP Mode. = The time zone must be adjusted manually with the host OS. (The UTC (GMT) is default) Click "Start" to "Control Panel" -> Double click "Date and Time" -> Click "Time Zone" tab -> Select your Time Zone and click OK!! b. In Windows Virtual PC = When integration features is enabled, the display can only show up to 16-bit (65536) colors. Also, it is slower and DirectX / Direct3D is not fully supported. = Turning on audio integration on Windows XP guests causes audio issues. = USB devices only support USB 1.1. = Guests multiprocessors cannot be used. = Drag and drop functionality is not supported. c. In VMware Workstation Player / Pro = If your CPU is too older and low ability (In particular, such Intel Core i3 or lower), it may be laggy and sounds terrible. = If you execute this after moving or copying the configuration files, the shared folders function will be disabled. Therefore, you must turn on the shared folders function after powering off this virtual machine. = Although a virtual printers is supported, the settings screen is completely different from that of the host, so some functions may not be available from the virtual printer. In this case, install and use the drivers provided by the manufacturer. = Even if the application to the guest OS is executed directly, VMware Workstation always starts because the guest OS does not start in the background. = There is a bug that sometimes the display becomes strange after the guest OS startups. = When exiting Unity mode, sometimes the happens mouse pointer glitch on the this guest OS side. d. In Oracle VM VirtualBox = Effective operation of 3D acceleration is difficult. = USB 2.0 (OHCI + EHCI) transfer speed is very slow. = Automatic login by saving credentials is not supported (In the former case). = The taskbar for guest is always visible, even when running in seamless mode. = Publishing and direct execution of guests applications is not supported. = Virtual printers are not supported. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.
