Support for multi-frame autonomous intercoms
- Previous multi-frame intercoms were based on primary/slave architecture.
In those systems, the first frame was the primary frame, in which all core
functionality processing occurred. If a slave frame lost its links to
the primary frame, it would have no functionality.
- In the new architecture, each frame operates autonomously. Some
functionality is centralized in one frame (e.g. communications with the
Trunk Master); however, most functionality is spread across frames, with
each frame handling those ports which reside in it.
- If one frame loses connection with another, both frames continue to
operate autonomously.

allowed to have key labels, and maximum number of labels
per panel.
- Key Labels are then enabled on a panel by panel basis via
AZedit. AZedit will warn when you attempt to enable
key labels on more panels that the intercom allows.
- On a panel with Key Labels enabled, AZedit allows entry
of labels for each key (but will warn when you attempt to
create more labels than the intercom allows for a given
panel).

Intercom Sizing Wizard
- The Options | Intercom Configuration dialog has been

- An addition to this dialog is the Intercom Sizing Wizard,
which simplifies the configuration options available when
resizing an intercom.
- The Intercom Sizing Wizard presents a short series of
questions that let you choose the type and size of
intercom, including various optional settings (where
applicable) such that you cannot accidentally create an
invalid configuration.
Support for Key Assignment Block Copy and Paste
- It is now possible to use a mouse drag-select operation
to highlight a block of keys on the keypanel
view.
- Once highlighted, the block may be copied, and then
pasted onto the same keypanel, or any other
keypanel.
- In addition, it is also possible to paste the block
of key assignments into a different starting key
position.
- The standard copy and paste menu items and hotkeys are
used to perform these actions.
Support for Customizable Toolbars
- AZedit supports two kinds of toolbars. The first
kind of toolbar is the standard toolbar (normally found
right below the menu bar) which contains action items
such as File New, Open, Save, Undo, Search, Copy,
etc... The second kind of toolbar is a navigation
toolbar (normally found right above the status bar) which
contains navigation items that switch from one view to
another such as Keypanel, Party Lines, IFBs, Alphas,
etc...
- In previous versions of AZedit, these two toolbars were
fixed in position and in the items that they
contained. Now it is possible to move the toolbars
to dock against any side of the application, or even to
float the toolbars in a separate window. In
addition, you can select which items each toolbar
contains by selecting Customize from the View menu, or by
right-clicking on a toolbar. Other customizable
options include whether the button contains a large icon
or a small icon, and whether there is a text label below
or beside the button.
- The size, position, and button population of each toolbar
is saved when exiting, and re-loaded on startup.
Support for up to 16 Local GPIO per Keypanel
- The number of local GPIO supported per keypanel has been
increased from 4 to 16.
- KP-32 keypanels support 4 local GPIO, but the RVON-IO
allows up to 8 more local GPIO to be associated with a
given keypanel (in positions 9-16)

Support for Snoop Tally intercom configuration option
- A new intercom configuration option called Snoop Tally,
when enabled, provides and indication to keypanel users
that somebody is listening to them.
- Snoop tallies are displayed as an amber color on the
mic-mute LED on KP-32 keypanels.
- Snoop tallies are displayed on keypanel X if there is
another keypanel Y which is listening to X via a
point-to-point or a special list, but which is not
talking to X.
- Snoop tallies are suppressed if keypanel X has any talk
keys turned on, or if X does not have a hot mic enabled.

through (the called panel gets neither audio nor a
tally), and the caller gets a busy tally.
- To prevent a call from being interrupted, the caller must
leave the talk key latched for the duration of the call
(otherwise another caller could sneak in).

calls always go through

Support for IFB Special Lists
- AZedit now supports IFB Special Lists. An IFB
Special List is just like a standard Special List except
that the members are IFBs instead of Ports (and IFB
Special Lists do not have Relays associated with them, as
do standard Special Lists). In addition to an IFB
membership list, an IFB Special List has an alpha, an
alias, a description, and scroll restriction flags.
It can be assigned to a keypanel key via AZedit, or via
scrolling (locally and remotely). Talking to an IFB
Special List is the equivalent to calling of its IFB
members individually (IFB priorities still apply).
Listening to an IFB Special List has no effect. IFB
SL key assignments do not tally.

Support for Assignment Groups
- AZedit now supports Assignment Groups. An
Assignment Group is a list of arbitrary key assignments
(both local and remote) of any function type that can be
created in AZedit and which are then available in a
single scroll list to any keypanel. You can use
Assignment Groups to logically combine related key
assignments into a single scroll list. For
instance, you might combine the ports, PLs, and IFBs
associated with a particular studio into one Assignment
Group (scroll list) that then be called up by a
keypanel. An Assignment Group has an alpha, a
description, and a local scroll restriction flag.
Assignment Groups are not available to remote intercoms,
although an Assignment Group can contain remote key
assignments. Assignment Groups can contain key
assignments that are themselves scroll restricted.
- At the keypanel, pressing PGM/SEL in an idle state (CWW
is empty) brings up a list of Assignment Groups (sorted
by alpha). You can scroll through the list of
available Assignment Groups and then press PGM/SEL again
to select a specific group. The keypanel will then
display a list of the key assignments contained in the
selected Assignment Group (or N/A if the group is
empty). You can then scroll through the members of
the group and talk to them by pressing the CWW key, or
copy them to another key using the standard copy-key
sequence. You cannot copy a key assignment if it is
scroll restricted (even though it appears in the
Assignment Group).

Support for Panel Party Line special functions
- AZedit now supports 2 new key assignments: PPL (Panel
Party Line) and PPLI (PPL Inhibit). These can only
be programmed on talk keys.
- Suppose panel A has point-to-point crosspoints closed
from ports B, C, and D (via talk keys on B/C/D and/or
listen keys on A), and has P-P crosspoints closed to
ports C, D, and E. Suppose A turns on a talk key with a
PPL assignment on it. The intercom then builds a dynamic
party line, in which all ports talking to A are the
talkers, and all ports listening to A are listeners. So
in this example, B would talk to C, D, and E; C would
talk to D and E; D would talk to C and E. (The diagonal
crosspoints are never closed.)
- Normally, PPL crosspoints are released when a talk key
with a PPL assignment is released. However, if a panel
has more than one key with a PPL assignment on it, the
PPL crosspoints are recomputed whenever a talk key with a
PPL assignment is closed or released; the PPL is
destroyed when the panel no longer has any talk key
closed with the PPL assignment on it.
- PPLI processing is similar to PPL, with the following
enhancement: In addition to closing the crosspoints
as indicated above, the system also inhibits all
crosspoints from any port not involved in the PPL to any
port involved in the PPL. Hence, in the above example,
the crosspoints from any other port F would be inhibited
to all the ports A through E.
- Requires the following firmware versions:
- Master Controller V9.21.0 (ADAM-CS only)
Show and Hide List Columns
- AZedit now supports easier control of the appearance of
list-type displays. In this version and in previous
versions you could adjust the size of a column by
dragging the column divider (shrinking the width to zero
if desired), auto-size the column by double-clicking the
column divider, or re-arrange the column order by
dragging a column header to a new position. Once a
column was shrunk to zero width, it was difficult to make
the column visible again. Now, if you right click a
column header, you are presented with a context menu
allowing you to Hide the selected column, and a sub-menu
showing all the currently hidden columns that you can
select to Show again. The Show/Hide status of every
column is stored in the registry and is maintained
between launches of the application.
Optimizations for Multiple AZedit Sessions
- Several optimizations have been made in order to improve
communications when using multiple AZedit sessions on the
same intercom. When multiple AZedit sessions are
connected to the same intercom, there is often a
degradation in communications reliability (especially in
DBX systems) because the UARTs on the existing Master
Controller do not have large enough FIFOs to allow the MC
to service them all in a timely manner. This
results in an increase in timeouts, checksum errors, and
NAKs, which cause messages to be re-sent, and can even
cause an AZedit session to disconnect (and re-connect
automatically).
- Much of the time, the serial traffic from AZedit is
simply for refreshing the current display. Cutting
down on these refreshes reduces serial traffic and
improves the communications reliability on other serial
sessions. This version of AZedit automatically
stops refreshing the screen when the application is
minimized. It is recommended practice for users of
AZedit (on a system with multiple AZedit sessions) to
minimize their session when it is not in use. This
feature may be disabled by setting the following
registery entry:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telex\AZedit\Users\Default\general\PauseOnMinimize
= N
- This version also allows the user to manually pause the
automatic refresh by pressing the PAUSE key.
Refresh is resumed by clicking OK on the
"Pause" dialog.
- An optional optimization allows AZedit to stop refreshes
whenever the application is not the foreground
application. This optimization must be manually
enabled by setting the following registry entry:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Telex\AZedit\Users\Default\general\PauseOnLostFocus
= Y
- Another optional optimization allows AZedit to stop
refreshes whenever the application detects mouse and
keyboard inactivity for a given period of time.
This optimization must also be manually enabled by
setting the following registry entries:

= Y

of the refresh pause mechanisms.

increasing the number of times a failed message is
retried, and breaking large messages into several smaller
messages.

AZedit V2.06.07
Support for downloading a license file to Cronus Intercoms
- AZedit can now download a license file to Cronus
Intercoms in order to enable hotlinks (to provide
multi-frame functionality). The Options | Download
License command will only appear when connected online to
a Cronus intercom (version 0.1.0 or later) that doesn't
already have a license enabling hotlinks.
- Invoking the Options | Download License command will
bring up a standard file open dialog allowing the user to
select the license file to be downloaded. The license
file must be supplied by Telex. When a file is selected,
it will then be downloaded to the intercom, and a message
box will appear to indicate either that the download was
accepted, or the reason why it wasn't. Note: It may take
roughly 5 seconds for this message to appear in the
case of a successful download to a Cronus intercom (due
to the time needed by Cronus to verify the digital
signature). After a successful download, this command
will no longer be available, since the Cronus intercom
will now have hotlinks enabled.
Support for browsing for Ethernet capable intercoms to
which AZedit can connect
- On the Options | Communications dialog, when configuring
AZedit to talk to an intercom via Ethernet, you can
either enter the IP address of the intercom directly, or
you can press the browse button to display a list of
detected intercoms from which to select. This works
in the same manner as Trunk Edit for detecting Ethernet
aware Trunk Masters.
Improved support for RVON-8, RVON-1 and VKPs
- The Port Status and Port Version screens now allow you to
view the current firmware version of connected RVON-1 and
VKPs as well as download new firmware to RVON-1
cards. A checkbox on the Port Version screen allows
you to toggle between displaying the actual keypanel
firmware version and the RVON-1 firmware version.
- The connection status displays for RVON-8 cards now
suppress (invalid) codec information if the channel is
not connected.
- Downloading multiple RVON-8 or RVON-1 cards
simultaneously could cause you to be unable to exit the
download dialog in some circumstances. This has
been corrected.
Support for LCPs and PAPs connected to slave frames of a
DBX system
- It is now possible to connect LCPs and PAPs to Peripheral
Controllers installed into the slave frames of DBX
systems. Each frame can now support up to 15 LCP
and PAP devices on J3 (at 76.8kbps) and an additional 5
devices on J4 (at 9600kbps).

Support for separate options for reducing TIF, Trunk and PL
tallies

Support for Chinese versions of AZedit

the same way as the Japanese version of AZedit.

Support for Ethernet connections to Cronus Intercoms
- AZedit can now connect to Cronus Intercoms over
Ethernet. The Options | Communications dialog has
been expanded to allow a network connection option and
the entry of the IP address of the desired
intercom. When connected to a Cronus intercom via
serial or USB connections, the Options | Ethernet Setup
dialog allows modifying the IP parameters of the attached
intercom.
Bundling of Cronus USB driver with AZedit installation
- The Cronus USB driver files are now bundled with the
AZedit installation, and are copied to the USB directory
below the AZedit installation directory. When a
Cronus intercom is first connected to your computer via
USB, the New Hardware Wizard will launch. Choose
the option to manually select the driver directory and
point it to the C:\Telex\AZedit\V20606\USB (or
equivalent) directory. The USB drivers will be
installed from there and AZedit will then be able to
connect to the Cronus intercom by changing the connection
option to USB on the Options | Communications dialog.

- The RVON-8 cards can be configured, and the channel
status for each card can be viewed via AZedit. New
firmware can also be downloaded to RVON-8 cards via
AZedit. In order to view the connection status
and/or download firmware, the computer running AZedit
must be connected to the same Ethernet network as the
RVON-8 card (or must be able to reach the RVON-8 card via
a gateway). AZedit contacts the RVON-8 cards
directly over Ethernet for status and download, rather
than via a serial connection with the Master Controller,
in order to improve response time and performance.

Support for Cronus intercoms
- The Status, Version, and Intercom configuration screens
have been modified to support the Cronus intercom if
connected. A new screen for Crosspoint Controller

Displays card type on I/O Status screen
- The I/O Status screen now displays the type of card in
each slot if the card is capable of reporting this
information to the intercom. The current versions
of AES-3 and RVON-8 cards support this ability. The
AIO-8 card will report its type starting at V10.3.0 (not
yet released). The card type information is used to
prevent the user from accidentally downloading the wrong
firmware image to one or more selected cards. It is
also used to identify RVON-8 cards so that they can be
configured and have their status viewed.

Support for separate input and output alphas
- In earlier versions, a port had a single alpha
representing both the audio input, and audio output
portions of the port. For keypanels, where both the input
and output refer to the same device, this made sense.
However, in other applications, the input and output
paths of the port would often be used for different
purposes (eg. IFB program inputs or listen sources on the
input side, and an IFB output on the output side).
In
this version, it is now possible to give separate alphas
to both the input and output portions of a port (by
default, the input alpha tracks the output alpha unless
you explicitly change the input alpha, so that normally
they are the same which would be typical for ports with
keypanels attached).
Input alphas are enabled from the Intercom
Configuration dialog which will cause the intercom to
re-configure itself and perform a first birthday
(although it will remember the system size). AZedit
automatically displays the correct input or output alpha
depending on the context (i.e. IFB program input lists
contain input alphas, and IFB output lists contain output
alphas). In situations where either could apply (such as
on the Party Line membership view), a context menu allows
switching between input and output port alphas as
necessary.
When trying to enter key assignments with input alphas
enabled, you must type input alphas in listen key
assignments, and output alphas in talk key assignments
(remember that for most ports the input and output alphas
will be exactly the same). Alternatively, you can
use the key assignment context menu item "Change
Assignment" to be provided with a list of the
appropriate type. You can also use the key
assignment grid to drag any assignment onto a talk or
listen key.

Printing of designation strips for ZEUS family keypanels
- When printing designation strips for keypanels, different
dimensions for the strip height and/or centre-centre key
spacing are used for the MKP-4, MKP-12, BKP-4, WKP-4, and
TKP-4. In addition, when a panel contains fewer
than 16 keys, only the actual number of keys are
printed. Calculations for how many panels to print
per page were also modified to take into account the new
measurements and to reflect the number of hardware panels
possible.

UPL Control of IFB Program Input
- UPL Control of IFB Program Input allows a user to set the
output action of a UPL statement to change the program

Local Storing Of Advanced Communications Parameters
- A new preference allows the storing of advanced
communications parameters locally, so when a first
birthday occurs, connecting to the intercom with AZedit
will automatically restore the advanced communications
settings.
Internationalization Options
Starting with V4.0.0, AZedit is always built as a UNICODE application.
Version from V2.06.05 to V3.9.0 of AZedit were available in either ASCII or UNICODE
builds.
ASCII versions provide an English user interface. UNICODE versions are
capable of providing a user interface in nearly any language. The user
interface for the UNICODE version is currently available in English and
Japanese, with both Traditional and Simplified Chinese versions in development.
ASCII and UNICODE versions are both still available with either the Standard or
Extended (Japanese) feature set.
The UNICODE versions use resource DLL's which provide the user interface text
in various languages. AZedit automatically picks the appropriate language
DLL to match the system locale selected by the user (in Control Panel, Regional
and Language Settings). If the required language DLL is not present,
AZedit defaults to the English language resources that are compiled into the
application executable. An enhanced "About AZedit" dialog displays
information regarding the AZedit build and resource DLL settings.
To support user interface languages other than English, a new resource DLL
must be created for each language.
UNICODE versions of AZedit starting with V3.0.4 are compatible
with restrictions files created with any version of the AZedit Restrictions
Editor; however to create Restrictions Files that allow you to view AZedit menu
item text in the language of the current system locale, use the UNICODE version
of Restrictions Editor V2.0.4.
