WFM700 Series Digital Waveform Monitors

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.  Please read carefully before downloading software

Potential problem with WFM700's delivered prior to January 23, 2003:

	WFM700 Series products shipped prior to January 23, 2003 with a 
        serial number below B011400 may have an instrument lock-up problem 
        which leaves the instrument inoperable. The instrument must then be 
        returned to Tektronix, Inc. for repair at no charge.

        The installation program for firmware version 3.0.X tests the instrument 
        for this potential problem and implements a software repair if the defect
        is found.

        If you have an instrument shipped after January 23, 2003 with serial 
        number B011400 or greater, please proceed with the normal upgrade 
        process since this problem does not affect your instrument.

        For instruments shipped prior to January 23, 2003 with a serial
        number below B011400, if you attempt to upgrade the instrument 
        firmware to version 3.0.X and this problem is detected and repaired,
        the following instrument settings will be lost:

            Preset settings and titles
            SNMP configuration settings
            Printer configuration settings

        It is recommended that you make a note of these instrument settings 
        prior to upgrading the instrument in case you must reconfigure the 
        instrument because the repair was implemented.

        After firmware version 3.0.X is installed, this problem will not reoccur
        and you can use the standard process for any future firmware upgrades.


CAUTION -- Software Version Compatibility:
        This version of Software is designed for WFM700 Series Instruments
	with version A Video Processor Boards.  It cannot be loaded into a
	WFM700 with a version B Video Processor Board.

	You can check for the Video Processor Board version on your instrument
	by pressing the HELP button and entering the System Info / Installed
	Options Menu.  

	If the Installed Options screen does not list a "Vid. Proc" version or
	if the Vid. Proc version is "RTDv.A", then your instrument has a version A 
	Video Processor Board and you can install this version of software 
	in your WFM700. 
	
	If the Installed Options screen says that your Vid. Proc version is "RTDv.B",
	then you CANNOT use this software in your instrument. Instead, you must select 
	and download version V3.0.6B software package.


When you download new firmware from the www.tektronix.com web site, 
you will receive the firmaware upgrade image (.fmw file), the firmware
upgrade utility (transfer.exe) and the Release Notes document in .pdf format.
Be sure to use the firmware upgrade procedure in the WFM700 Technical Reference to avoid 
firmware installation problems.

The WFM700 User Manual, Technical Reference Manual,and SNMP MIB Reference Manual
can be downloaded from www.tektronix.com/manuals.

The release notes also provide the following information:

 - Descriptions of the new features released with the firmware version

 - Descriptions of problems or behaviors that you might encounter while using
   the waveform monitor and explanations of how you can minimize or
   eliminate the impact on instrument operation.
