Installing VistaLINK™ PRO – Full (Trial) Version

If you are installing VistaLINK™ PRO Server and Client on the same PC:

 

  1. From the CD-ROM, select “Install VLPRO (Full/Demo Version)". This selection will initiate the software installation procedure for VistaLINK™ PRO Server
  1. Proceed with the installation, following instructions as displayed on the monitor. Your options are to:

 

 


  1. Upon completion of VistaLINK™ PRO Server installation, click the Windows© “Start” button then “Programs”. Proceed to the “VistaLINKPro Server” selection and click “Install VistaLinkPro Clients (on this machine) option. This will start the VistaLINK™ PRO Client installation.
  2. During the Client installation you will be prompted to select which type of client application to install. Select the Standard Client, Monitor Client, AutoConfig Client or the Graphics Client.
     

  3. Repeat steps 3. and 4. for all desired client type application installs.

 

 

 

If you are installing VistaLINK™ PRO Server and Client on separate PCs:

 

  1. Install VistaLINK™ PRO Server as specified above on the PC (server machine)
  2. Locate the “Program Files” sub-directory on your local disk (usually the “C:\” drive)
  3. Proceed to locate and open the “VistaLinkProServer” sub-directory.
  4. Within the “VistaLinkProServer” sub-directory, proceed to locate the “VistaLinkProClient” sub-directory.
  5. Share out the “VistaLinkProClient” subdirectory.
  6. From the remote client PC browse to the shared folder created in step 5.)
  7. Copy the two files "Client.exe" and "VistaLinkServerConfig.xml" locally to the remote client station. Ensure both files are copied to the same location.
  8. Run the "Client.exe" to install the client software.
  9. Repeat step 8.) for all client types desired.
  10. Start-up the Server and Client as specified in the next section.
 
 

Installing VistaLINK™ PRO – Configuration Only Version

 

Note: VLPRO-C is an indication of a standalone version of VistaLink PRO. VLPRO-C versions do not connect to a running server and are limited to module configuration only. No fault TRAP alarming or database dependant features are available.

 

  1. From the CD-ROM, select “VLPRO-C Configuration Only Version”. This selection will initiate the software installation procedure for the standalone version of VistaLink PRO. This version does not require a connection to a VistaLink PRO Server application therefore it can only be used for hardware configuration (no database dependant features).
 
 

Activating a VistaLINKTM PRO Client License

 

 

To Activate a Client License Key:

 

  1. Copy the supplied client license key to the hard disk drive of the PC running the VistaLink PRO Server application.

  2. From the VistaLink PRO Server application select Help -> Activate License.

  3. The Locate Activation File dialog will open.  Browse to and select the license file copied in step 1.

  4. Click Open to activate the license file.

 

Note: To update or change existing client license information repeat the process outlined above. New client license keys that are activated will replace all existing license information.

 

 

Starting VistaLINK™ PRO

 

  1. For Configuration-only (VLPRO-C) version…
    1. From the “Start/Programs” menu of Windows®, select and run “VistaLink PRO”.
    2. Proceed to the VLPRO Help Guide for application instructions.
  2. For the Full (Trial) VLPRO version…
    1. From the “Start/Programs” menu of Windows®, select and run “VistaLinkProServer”.
    2. Upon start-up, enter “administrator” as the user name without a password to unlock the VistaLINK™ PRO Server.
    3. Select and run “VistaLinkProClient” from the “Start/Programs” menu
    4. Upon start-up, enter “administrator” as the user name without a password to initiate the VistaLINK™ PRO Client.
    5. Proceed to the VLPRO Help Guide for application instructions.
 
 

Logging into the System

The Logon window will appear shortly after you run the software.  The purpose of this window is to authenticate the user before access is given to the configuration and alarm logs, as well as provide user audit tracking when an alarm is acknowledged.

 

 

VistaLINK™ PRO Server is installed with a factory default logon account of "Administrator" with no assigned password.

 

 

Note for System Administrators

It is the responsibility of the Administrator of VistaLINK™ PRO to change the password of the factory default 'administrator' logon as soon as possible to avoid unwanted tampering.

 

It is recommended that the system administrator assign a password to the "Administrator" account upon first logon (see User Permissions)
